Day 7 – At Sea

Our cruise finally began today…so it is with mixed feelings, that I write this.  Happy because the ship is moving and we’re on our way to all those far away lands and sad that we left Venice.  The weather added to that feeling of sadness as it was cool, gloomy and raining when we left.  The sail away, however, was still very moving and emotional.  They played Andrea Botticelli and Celine Dion’s duet of Time to Say Goodbye as we sailed by the Piazza San Marco.  I don’t think there was a dry eye on the ship.  It was a time for reflection and made us appreciate how fortunate we are to be able to make this trip.

After a light lunch at the buffet, we went to an unofficial Meet & Greet of the group of individuals who have been corresponding and posting about this cruise via Cruise Critic for the past year…The TARTS:  TransAtlantic Ruby Travelers.  There are over 400 of us!!!  We even have name pins to wear, t-shirts and door signs.  It was great to finally “speak” with those who have become “bulletin board” friends.  Tomorrow will be our official Meet & Greet and I look forward to meeting so many of them.

The rest of the day was quiet as we further explored the ship, tried our luck in the casino  (What luck?!), and did some wash. It is great that Princess has self-serve laundries on each deck, but it was very crowded with people juggling clothes and calling dibs on dryers.  So many of us arrived a week ago and spent time touring, and we’re all running out of clean clothes.

Dinner this evening was a wonderful experience.  We shared a table with six other individuals…two from California, two from Tucson Arizona and another couple from Florida.  This is one of the things about cruising that I like best.  We get to meet people from all over the US and other countries who love to cruise.  We share tips/hints and experiences and learn so much from each other.  The food this evening was fabulous.  My favorite vegetable springs rolls with peanut sauce for an appetizer, tortellini soup and then prime rib that was so tender you could have cut it with a fork!   And for dessert…a passion fruit soufflé with warm vanilla crème…Yum, Yum, Yum.

Went back to the casino for just a bit of video poker…again with no luck and realized that we were just plain tired tonight.  It is nice to know that we can rest again tomorrow as it is another day at sea.
