Day 10 - Pisa & Florence

Finally, we woke to a day that promised sunshine from the start.  Seems like a good omen.  On to Pisa and Florence today, again with Rome in Limo.  This is the best tour company we have ever used…their drivers and guides are so accommodating and knowledgeable.

Our first look at the Leaning Tower of Pisa…and we are dumbfounded!!  OMG…it really does lean…and quite a bit!!!  It is a beautiful work of art, along with the cathedral there and the baptistery.  Of course, we had to do the pictures of holding the tower up…what fun!!   We chose not to climb the 235 stairs to the top of the tower but were thrilled that we there on Sunday as that is the only day that they ring the bells.  What a beautiful sound.

Then it was on to Florence which was about a one hour drive from Pisa.  We had tickets for 12 noon for the Accademia to see “David” and were right on time.  I had forgotten what a masterpiece this statue was.  To think that Michaelangelo took a damaged piece of marble and sculpted this gorgeous creature.  We were in awe.

Of course, then time for lunch, in a cute little cafe where we had wonderful paninis and pastry…can you say yummy??

Our guide, Iurica, then took us on a great walking tour of Florence where we viewed the cathedral, the Ponte Vecchio bridge (where all the gold jewelry is sold), some of the Florence’s squares, and ending at the Church of Santa Croce where Michaelangelo and Galileo are buried.   Her knowledge of art, and art history and the history of Florence was excellent and she helped us appreciate this most beautiful city so much more.
