Another day waking up
at 6:15 am to be ready to be off the ship by 7:45. We’ve been enjoying room service each morning
as it makes getting out on time that much easier. I have definitely become used to that little
knock on the door and a handsome young man bringing me my croissant in the
morning with apricot or strawberry jam…so delicious…the croissant, not the
young man!
Today we had to
tender from the ship to the dock in Cannes as they don’t have the capabilities
to dock a super large ship such as this.
While the tenders are large, I hope we never have to spend any amount of
time on them if we need to vacate the ship.
They certainly leave a lot to be desired.
Unfortunately, the
weather started out miserable again this morning…gray and weeping. Things looked up though when two beautiful
young ladies from Revelations Tours picked up our two groups of eight for a
wonderful day in the Cote’ d Azur.
First a driving tour of Cannes into Cap’ d Antibes and Nice. OMG…how wealthy are some of the people….the
yachts are unbelievable!!! As we
traveled the coast, we were faced with a view of the Alps…with snow on
them…that just fell yesterday!! Our
driver, Katarina, told us that within an hour, one can be skiing.
We headed up to the
medieval town of Eze which is high up on a mountain. Once you enter the town you feel as if you
are in a fairy tale. Small passageways
wind their way up through town and everywhere there are small shops located in
caves with wooden doors. The town boasts
a church, two hotels and an amazing cemetery.
Flowers and greenery drip and climb over the bricks that make up the
walls of the town. It is probably the
most beautiful and unique place we have ever been.
Afterward, it was on
to Monaco and Monte Carlo. OK…I thought
people were rich before…this is wealth beyond compare. I couldn’t even walk in
the stores here…Gucci, Dior, VanCleef and Arpel. The yachts were the largest we have ever
seen in our lives. And we also a saw a
few Bentleys, a Lamborgini, Jaguars and, of course, Ferraris. It was thrilling to be driving on the same
roads that the Grand Prix is held on. I
honestly don’t know how those Formula 1 drivers navigate the turns. Just traveling at a normal speed is
scary.
The ship tonight is
rocking and rolling…we have gale force winds out there that at one point had
the ship tilted a bit. You know things
are tough when the captain comes on and asks everyone to stay in their cabins
for a while. To be honest, I kinda like
it. The rocking keeps putting me to
sleep. We did come out for dinner and
there were not a lot of people out and about, so I’m thinking the Dramamine is
working its magic.
